Green Hornets run over Renovo, 46-0.

The Wellsboro Green Hornets scored in eyery period on Saturday at Renovo, as the Hornets ran over the Railroaders 46-0.

The Wellsboro squad scored all seven touchdowns on the ground as they rolled for 323 yards, while running up 13 first downs. The Hornets hit three for five passes good for 53 yards.

Renovo didn't fair so well against the Hornet defense, besides being held scoreless, the Railroaders could manage only five first downs and were held to minus 15 yards on the ground.

Renovo played a passing game, heaving 23 aerials and hitting on seven of them for 97 yards.

The Hornets struck early in the first quarter, after retuming the kickoff on Iheir own 35-yard line, in four plays the Hornets were on the Railroaders 32-yard line. The Hornets were penalized 15 yards but quarterback Dale Tombs ran for eleven and hit Denny Rumsey with a pass for 16 yards and the Hornets were on the Renovo 15-yard line.

On two runs by Bill Leonard the pigskin was on the four yard-line, and quarterback Dale Tombs cracked the line for the score. Gary Morral booted the extra point.

Bill Leonard scored the first of three touchdowns early in the second period when he scored from four yards out, after he caught a 25 yard pass from Tombs to set the touchdown up. The kick placement was no good.

The Railroaders couldn't get a drive going, and four minutes later Leonard scored his second touchdown. With Clarke and Leonard carrying the mail, they worked the ball to the Renovo 24-yard line. Leonard look a handoff from Tombs, skirted around left end and galloped the remaining distance for the score. Morral's placement was good as the Hornets led 20-0, at halftime.

The Hornets went right lo work early in the third quarter and scored before the period was two minutes old. Wellsboro kicked off to the Renovo 10-yard line and they returned it to the 22-yard line where they fumbled and Gary Wilson recovered for the Hornets on the 20-yard line. After four running plays, quarterback Dale Tombs cracked over from the two-yard line for his second touchdown of the day. Morral's kick placement was good.

Renovo took the ensuing kickoff on their own 15-yard line and returned it to the 30-yard line. After losing three yards on two running plays, the Railroaders took to the air and Lynn Halstead picked off their aerial for Ihe Hornets on the 43-yard line.

After the Hornets look a five yard penalty. Bill Leonard look a handoff from Tombs and scampered 60 yards around end for the score. Morral's kick placement was no good.

The Hornets scored soon afler when Denny Rumsey ran 26 yards for the score, again the kick placement was no good. The Hornets led 39-0 at the end of the third quarter.

The Wellsboro squad ended the days scoring when Ronnie Comstock scored from 11 yards out. Morral's kick placement was good for his fourth of the day. The game ended with the Hornets driving on the Renovo five-yard line.

Coach Norman Antoine substituted freely and all the squad saw action. This Saturday, the Hornets will meet Horseheads on the home gridiron with game time set at 2:00 p.m.
